The Clemson Tigers took a series victory against No.8 Louisville at Doug Kingsmore Stadium this past weekend. The Tigers won on Friday 5-1, Saturday 6-3 and fell on Sunday in extra innings by a score of 7-4.

Davis Sharpe pitched into the seventh inning on Friday and only gave up one run. He outpitched one of the best pitchers in the nation, Louisville’s Reid Detmers. Detmers came into the game with a 0.88 ERA, and had only given up five runs in over 40 innings pitched, with no home runs allowed. This changed Friday when Logan Davidson, Kyle Wilkie and Elijah Henderson all took Detmers deep and hung five runs on him in six innings. Davidson and Wilkie homered on back to back pitches in the third inning and Henderson hit his first career home run in the fifth.

Mat Clark pitched 7.1 innings, his longest career outing, and only gave up one run. Grayson Byrd hit a home run and also made his first career start in left field. Byrd finished the day with two RBI’s and Sam Hall drove in another two. Carson Spiers got the final two outs to secure the save.

Clemson went for the sweep on Sunday but fell in 11 innings. Starting pitcher Keyshawn Askew only lasted into the second inning before giving way to the bullpen. The Tigers only used three pitchers to finish the game. Clemson had a 4-3 lead into the seventh inning when a Louisville sacrifice-fly tied the game. Clemson had a chance to win the game in the bottom of the ninth when Bryce Teodosio made it to second base with only one out, but Hall and Davidson failed to drive him in. Louisville hit two home runs in the top of the 11th inning to eventually win the game.

Clemson travels to Florida State this weekend for a big three-game ACC series.
