Clemson will play Alabama tonight in the College Football National Championship without one of their star defensive lineman, Dexter Lawrence, because he failed a NCAA drug test.
Although Lawrence denies ever taking the performance enhancing drug Ostarine, he tested positive for it both sample A and B. In a last ditch effort to become eligible for the National Championship, Lawrence filed an appeal. However, the decision will not come back until after the Championship. In addition to losing the opportunity to play in the biggest game of the year, this could make Lawrence a less attractive draft pick.
Even though Dexter Lawrence was a big reason why Clemson’s defensive line is the best in college football, Clemson fans should not worry. After all, the Tigers defeated the Fighting Irish in the Cotton Bowl without Lawrence. Albert Higgins and the rest of the defensive line are expected to step up in the Championship as they did against Notre Dame. That being said, Alabama is a whole new animal, and Clemson will have to play their best for a chance to hoist the trophy at the end of the game.
