With the addition of Cal, Stanford and SMU to the ACC this season, questions are swirling around the impact of their landing on the East Coast.
Clemson football will only face Stanford this season out of the three new additions. The Tigers finished the 2023 season with a 9-4 record, winning the Taxslayer Gator Bowl against Kentucky to cap off a five-game win streak.
In their final season in the PAC-12, Stanford went 3-9 (2-7 PAC-12). There has not been much debate as to who will come out victorious when the teams meet in Memorial Stadium on Sept. 28.
Men’s soccer will also only compete against Stanford out of the three new teams, though they are not new opponents. Most recently, the Tigers defeated the Trees last December to advance to the College Cup and ultimately add another national championship to their list fo conquests.
Clemson sits at No. 1 for preseason rankings, with Stanford not far behind at No. 5, and it’s safe to say it will look to get revenge on the Tigers come Sept. 6.
Women’s soccer will not face any of the teams being added to ACC this season.
Volleyball will take on all three teams, the first being SMU on Sept. 29. The Mustangs went 26-7 (18-1 AAC) and advanced to the NCAA Tournament last year, meaning they will put up a strong fight against the Tigers in the recently-renovated Jervey Gymnasium.
Clemson will then face Stanford on Nov. 8. The Trees have been a dominant team in their conference and in the NCAA tournament for multiple years, but last year were upset by Texas in the regional final. Stanford has produced multiple Olympians, the most recent being Kathryn Plummer, who won silver with Team USA in Paris, and The Trees are currently ranked No. 5 in the NCAA preseason rankings.
Clemson will face Cal last, who went 16-15 (5-15) in their last season. With many players returning for the Tigers, they are expected to make a significant impact on the court this year.
