Following a loss to rival South Carolina Gamecocks on Friday, the Clemson volleyball team rounded out its 2024-2025 season non-conference slate with a rebound sweep over the Furman Paladins on Saturday. With the win, the Tigers improved to an 8-3 season record.
It took just three sets for the Tigers to top the Paladins: 25-16, 25-22 and 25-20. Freshman pin attacker Neea-Maria Joki spearheaded Clemson’s victory, recording 16 kills and two aces to maintain a 0.462 hitting percentage. Sophomore Kennedy Wagner, of the same position, followed closely behind Joki’s lead with 13 kills, and libero McKenna Gildon manned the service line with three aces.
While the Tigers swiftly took the first set, courtesy of Joki and Wagner, the Paladins kept the remaining two sets close. Furman established a 14-7 advantage in the second set, but following a brief timeout, Clemson regained its composure and claimed the 25-22 win with a 9-7 run to head into the final set with momentum on its side.
Clemson took an early lead in the third set, as pin attacker Azyah Dailey tallied three kills, Gildon an ace and Joki two kills of her own. Though the Paladins closed in on the Tigers — just two points shy of tying the score — Clemson finished strong to secure the sweep.
The Tigers will return to Jervey Gym to host their first ACC opponent, the No. 1 Pitt Panthers, on Friday, Sept. 27.
