The Clemson women’s basketball team lost to the No. 17 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 89-65 at the McCamish Pavilion in Atlanta this past Sunday.
The ACC matchup was the Tigers’ sixth straight conference game and fourth straight loss, as they have faced a formidable group of opponents in the first few weeks of the new year.
For Clemson (10-9, 3-5 ACC), guard Loyal McQueen continued her impressive 2024-25 season campaign, scoring 18 points and adding six assists while her backcourt partner, Mia Moore, recorded 15 points and a team-leading seven rebounds.
Despite these performances, Clemson struggled to slow down the Yellow Jackets (16-3, 4-3 ACC) throughout the game. Georgia Tech jumped out to a 46-26 lead at the half while shooting 66.7% from the field and 50% from behind the arc.
The Yellow Jackets were led by guard Tonie Morgan. Morgan recorded a triple-double and provided defensive stability for Georgia Tech, as its high-powered offense proved to be too much for Clemson to handle throughout the first half of the matchup.
The Tigers came out hot to start the second half. They went on a 12-2 run to cut the deficit but weren’t able to hold on to complete a comeback. These efforts were not enough to stop the Yellow Jackets, who eventually tallied a 6-0 run to put the game away.
The Tigers are back in Clemson on Thursday at 7 p.m., and they will face the Miami Hurricanes at Littlejohn Coliseum. They hope to snap Miami’s losing streak and gain some much-needed momentum in ACC play.
