Clemson baseball became the second team this month — joining softball — to achieve a 15-game win streak. The Tigers swept their midweek series with Liberty (11-6) on Wednesday to improve to 17-1 on the season.
A single in the first inning extended Jarren Purify’s hitting streak to 11 games, after which Liberty decided to walk him four straight times. Later in the inning, Josh Paino sent a 419-foot no-doubter over the left field wall, his fourth of the season, bringing in three and giving the Tigers an early 3-0 lead.
Tristan Bissetta added to the lead with an RBI double in the fourth inning. Luke Gaffney crushed a homer of his own in the sixth, and Dominic Listi followed with an RBI single. Two more runs, courtesy of Purify and Cam Cannarella, put the Flames out.
Seven Tiger pitchers combined to hold Liberty to just five hits and two runs while striking out 11. Chayce Kieck earned his second win of the season, throwing two scoreless innings in relief and striking out two. Chance Fitzgerald and Nathan Dvorsky each recorded three strikeouts in under two innings of work each.
The Tigers open ACC play at home in a three-game series against Notre Dame, starting on Friday at 4 p.m.
