Clemson flexed its firepower for the second straight game in another dominant outing, rolling past Gardner-Webb, 97-59, on Friday night.
After opening the season with a blowout win on Monday, the Tigers once again controlled the entirety of the game to move to 2-0 on the season.
Clemson came out firing from the start and never looked back, scoring 45 points in the first half and keeping the Runnin’ Bulldogs from ever getting within 10. The offense set the tone early with aggressive ball movement and confident shots.
Although the Tigers struggled from beyond the arc, hitting just 10 of 36 attempts for 28% — lower than Gardner-Webb’s 30% — they made up for it inside, finishing with a strong 48% shooting from the field overall.
Defensively, Clemson locked down the Bulldogs, holding them to just 38.3% from the floor. Only two Gardner-Webb players reached double figures, each finishing with 11 points.
Senior forward Nick Davidson led the way for the Tigers, posting a game-high 18 points along with six rebounds and two assists in 23 minutes.
Utah Valley transfer Carter Welling added 14 points and dominated the boards with 11 rebounds, helping Clemson control the glass with a 47-28 advantage, including 19 offensive rebounds.
Like Monday’s season opener, Clemson’s depth was on full display. 12 players saw the floor, 11 found the scoring column and four finished in double figures.
Gardner Webb also held a slight edge in free-throw shooting, making 65.4% compared to Clemson’s 65%.
The Tigers will look to stay undefeated when they host Morehead State on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Littlejohn Coliseum.
