On Feb. 28, Clemson opened the weekend on a high note with a 3-0 shutout of Mississippi State behind a dominant performance from Sierra Maness, who tossed her fourth complete game of the season.
The win marked a milestone moment for head coach John Rittman, as it secured his 1,000th career victory and the 250th win in program history.
Rittman holds the second-most wins among active head coaches at Clemson, trailing only men’s basketball head coach Brad Brownell.
Sunday’s matchup proved more challenging.
Clemson struggled early in the circle, as starter Lexie Hames threw nine consecutive balls and was pulled after back-to-back walks to begin the game.
Keira Crosby entered in relief and provided three innings of work, allowing two runs, but Mississippi State’s offense remained steady throughout the afternoon.
The Tigers’ best scoring opportunity came in the fifth inning when they loaded the bases, but were only able to push one run across.
Mississippi State showcased its power and discipline that fueled the strong start to the season, hitting two home runs, including a two-run blast in the sixth inning. The Bulldogs struck out only twice in the contest.
Despite the disappointing finish, Clemson notched its fourth victory over a ranked team of the 2026 season this weekend.
The Tigers continue their homestand on Wednesday against College of Charleston. The first pitch is set for 6 p.m.
