The NCAA selection show took place on March 23, when it was announced that Clemson would compete in the LSU regional against No. 2 LSU, Auburn and the winner of Wednesday’s first round, Nebraska. Two sessions will take place at the LSU regional, with the other session featuring No. 7 Stanford, No. 10 Michigan, North Carolina and Utah State.
The top two teams from each session advance to the regional final.
Looking at the competition, the host and the 2024 national champion, LSU, has had nothing short of a phenomenal season. The Tigers have had seven scores above 198.000 this season, with all-around phenom and vault specialist Kailin Chio heavily impacting that score. Chio scored a 9.950 or above on all her events in the SEC Championships and has been one of the most consistent gymnasts in the nation all year.
Auburn faced a tough SEC schedule, going 0-8 in the conference, but that does not take away from its No. 17 national ranking. Auburn averages a score of 196.518, just .181 less than Clemson.
No matter who was to win the first round between Air Force and Nebraska, Clemson has a good chance of advancing to the regional final, which will take place on April 4 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Clemson had an incredible performance to win the ACC Championship, and it’s peaking at the right time. The Tigers are looking to advance to their first regional final in program history as they continue a historic season in the Crandall-Howell era.
Clemson will compete against fellow Tigers of LSU in Session 2 on April 2 at 8 p.m.
