As a “Star Wars” fan, I have always made sure to check out the never-ending spin-off series and movies. The franchise has always had a special place in the hearts of fans across generations.
“Star Wars” hits differently than other works of science fiction, such as the likes of “Dune” and “Star Trek.” One can argue many points about the impact of a galaxy far, far away, such as the pioneering special effects of the original trilogy, the tragic fall of Anakin Skywalker into Darth Vader and newer characters introduced a decade ago, such as Kylo Ren and Rey.
There are many aspects of the “Star Wars” franchise to enjoy. With May 4 — Star Wars Day — being only weeks away, there are certainly plenty of intriguing projects that Lucasfilm is about to release.
“Maul — Shadow Lord”
During his memorable first appearance in “The Phantom Menace,” Darth Maul looked fearsome and fought the likes of Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi with extreme precision. He’s become a fan favorite character in the 26 years since the movie’s premiere, and is back in his own spin-off series, “Maul – Shadow Lord.”
The show takes place during the reign of the Galactic Empire, as the former Sith Lord attempts to rebuild his status in the criminal underworld. This series also features an updated “Clone Wars” animation style.
“Maul — Shadow Lord” will primarily take place on the Mid-Rim planet of Janix, which is rife with criminal activity. This series will also introduce a new character in the Twi’lek Jedi, Devon Izara.
Will Izara and Maul be uncommon allies or bitter enemies? New episodes will be released on April 20 and April 27, followed by the finale on May 4, hopefully providing answers to fans’ burning questions.
“The Mandalorian and Grogu”
Yet another series to feature the underworld of the “Star Wars” galaxy, “The Mandalorian and Grogu” will follow the infamous bounty hunter and his loyal, adorable companion on their journeys in service to the New Republic.
Releasing on May 22, this is the first major “Star Wars” release in theaters since “The Rise of Skywalker” debuted over 6 years ago. As you might expect, many fans are curious if this film will deliver on all of the hype.
“Ahsoka” Season 2
This continuation of this series is among the more intriguing “Star Wars” projects, in my opinion. With Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren stranded on the distant world of Peridea, fans have been wondering how they will be able to escape.
It will also be a delight to see what the return of Grand Admiral Thrawn means for the galaxy as a whole, not to mention whether Baylan Skoll will find the answer to his questions about the never-ending conflict between the light and dark sides of the Force.
The franchise’s future will be shaped by these projects this year. As has been the case with past “Star Wars” series and movies, the lead-up to these projects begs the question: How will the fans receive it? Fan feedback has been mixed in the lead-up to these releases, and it remains to be seen whether the projects will be well-received.

Great article. Must be a chore to keep up with the many characters in Star Wars.
