As the MLB season gets underway and another eight months of baseball lie ahead, there are several former Tigers worth keeping an eye on this year.
Spencer Strider
Perhaps the most notable name, Spencer Strider, has yet to make his season debut as he continues to recover from the oblique injury he suffered just days before opening day.
That said, the hard-throwing righty is trending in the right direction. Recently assigned to a rehab stint, Strider showed promise by striking out three of the first six batters he faced and touching 97 mph.
Justin Wrobleski
Sticking with pitching, Justin Wrobleski is coming off a dominant performance for the Los Angeles Dodgers against the New York Mets.
The lefty delivered eight shutout innings, facing just one batter over the minimum in a 4-0 win. This is possibly the Dodgers’ best start of 2025, which is no small feat given their stacked rotation.
Wrobleski has had an impressive start to his season for the back-to-back champs, posting a 2.12 ERA in three games.
Cam Cannarella
The name Clemson fans are most excited to see rise is Cam Cannarella, currently playing in the Miami Marlins’ High-A system.
Since he was selected No. 43 overall last summer, Cannarella has lived up to Clemson fans’ expectations. The lefty has slashed .368/.440/.579 with a 1.019 OPS, along with a homer and six RBIs.
Unfortunately, Cannarella’s momentum was put on pause for now after he suffered a fractured wrist in a recent outfield collision.
Bryce Teodosio
Another former Tiger to watch is Bryce Teodosio of the Los Angeles Angels.
While his .105 batting average through 16 starts leaves room for improvement, Teodosio’s defense continues to earn him a spot in the lineup.
Last week, Teodosio made a diving grab with a 0% estimated success rate to seal a 6-2 victory. He’s also shown signs of progress at the plate, picking up his first RBI of the season off Cy Young winner Chris Sale.
Weston Wilson
Weston Wilson is also making moves, as the Baltimore Orioles recently selected his contract following a couple of injuries on their roster.
After hitting .195 with two home runs and six RBIs in 12 Triple-A games, Wilson now steps into a depth role in Baltimore’s outfield.
Other Tigers
Other former Tigers floating around either in the minors or dealing with injuries include Logan Davidson in the Tampa Bay Rays organization and Carson Spiers with the Cincinnati Reds.
