From the East to the West, several of The Tiger’s staff members are completing various internships across the country this summer.
Learn about all the work some of our staff members are completing over the next few months and how what they’ve learned at Clemson, and as part of The Tiger, is helping them in their new roles as they push their careers forward!
Kat Pugh, editor-in-chief
The Tiger’s editor-in-chief is spending her time this summer as a journalist with Just the News in Washington, D.C., through a program with the National Journalism Center. Just the News is a Washington-based news publication covering events in the capital.
Over the next few months, Pugh will be covering politics in the nation’s capital, where she will conduct interviews, write articles, edit videos and more.
“I’m looking forward to applying everything I’ve learned at The Tiger thus far, including interviewing, writing, editing, teamwork and efficiency to my internship with Just the News this summer. I’m especially excited to experience the dynamic of a professional newsroom in Washington D.C., and be able to take elements of it back to The Tiger in the fall!”
Nathan Inman, associate editor
Inman will remain in the Clemson area this summer as an intern with The Journal through an internship provided by the South Carolina Press Association. Founded in 1903, The Journal is Seneca, South Carolina’s primary newspaper of record, primarily serving Oconee County and western Pickens County.
Throughout his eight-week program with The Journal, Inman will primarily cover local news events to gain experience beyond his background in sports coverage.
“I am super excited for what this internship has in store for me this summer. As I transition into my new role as Associate Editor with The Tiger, I feel it is paramount to gain experience in coverage of events besides just sports, and I am eager to bring back the knowledge I gain over the next eight weeks to the role this fall.”
Kaitlin Mulvihill, recruitment manager
Mulvihill will be working as a communication intern with the American Junior Golf Association, a nonprofit organization dedicated to developing young men and women who hope to earn collegiate golf scholarships.
In her role, Mulvihill will travel across the country with the AJGA, taking photos and helping run the organization’s social media.
“Since joining The Tiger, so many doors have opened for me, and it has been such a game-changer. The people skills and hands-on experience I’ve gained there are a huge reason I was able to land this internship.
“I’ll be traveling across the East Coast creating content for the AJGA, which is so exciting, and I truly couldn’t have done it without the strong foundation and support The Tiger gave me!”
Lily Graffius, art editor
Over the summer, Graffius will complete a marketing and brand design internship with Airsys USA. Airsys USA is a global company that designs and provides advanced cooling and HVAC systems for high-performance technology environments.
In her role, Graffius will create social media content, handle product marketing and branding and help set up events and trade shows.
“I’ll be able to use my experience with client email/interaction from my role as Advertising manager, and my creative design skills from working on graphics and comics as Art Editor at The Tiger.”
Angelo Feliberty, senior reporter
Feliberty will be covering Clemson sports this summer in his role as a writer for Clemson Tigers on SI. Clemson Tigers on SI is Sports Illustrated’s primary source of coverage for all things Clemson sports, ranging from football to basketball to baseball and more.
Feliberty began his role with Clemson Tigers on SI this past school year, where he has been gaining experience that correlates with his role as a senior reporter for The Tiger’s sports desk. This summer, he will continue adding to that experience, covering the offseasons for Clemson football, basketball and baseball.
“I’d say the biggest thing that translates to my work with Clemson Tigers on SI is the creative freedom I’ve developed while writing for The Tiger, as my boss likes to leave it up to us in terms of what we want to write about.
“Additionally, live coverage of games for The Tiger over the past three years has helped me get articles out much faster when I’m on a strict deadline for SI, especially when it’s football season.”
Aubrey Tarbox, senior photographer
The Tiger will be leaving its mark in the Lone Star State this summer, as Tarbox will be interning with the San Antonio Missions minor league baseball team. The Missions are a Double-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres.
In her role, Tarbox will assist the marketing team with promotions and projects, as well as support in-game baseball operations with whatever they need.
“Being on the photo desk at The Tiger has set me up perfect for my role as a gameday intern with the San Antonio Missions. Capturing so many game days, not just for baseball but for other sports too, taught me how to be adaptive and quick on my feet.”
“Sports photography is known to capture a lot of action, but you also have to be observant and pay attention to everything else happening around you. Having the ability to adapt to the game scenario plays a huge role in my internship, and I’m so thankful I have The Tiger to thank for teaching me that.”
