Clemson women’s lacrosse ended its historic inaugural regular season at Riggs Field on Thursday with a momentous 17-7 win against Pittsburgh (4-12, 0-9 ACC).
The Tigers (12-5, 4-5 ACC) came out with an aggressive start to notch seven goals in the first quarter alone. As halftime neared, Clemson remained up 10-3 and showed no mercy for the rest of the game as they continued to attack the Panthers’ goal.
While the offense kept the momentum high, the Tigers’ defense also put up an outstanding performance. In the second half, the defense only let up four goals thanks to a phenomenal performance from sophomore goalie Emily Lamparter, who recorded nine total saves.
However, Pittsburgh’s top players for the game, Ava Washington and Emily Coughlin, kept the Clemson defense on its toes. The two players totaled six of Pitt’s seven goals and kept the game alive in the second half.
Top scorers for Clemson included Marina Miller, Gianna New and Belle Martire, who all registered a hat trick performance. Hannah Hilcoff, Sofia Chepenik and Miya Scanlan earned two goals apiece, while Emma Tilson and Maddy Moloney each put one in the net to finalize the score.
Other key performers ended the season with staggering numbers. Hilcoff tallied her 50th goal during Thursday’s game, while Ella Little marked her 100th draw control with the Tigers and Lamparter reached 100 saves on the season.
As a result of Clemson’s regular season performance, they have been granted a bye in the first round as the No. 6 seed in the ACC tournament. The Tigers will face the No. 3-seeded North Carolina Tar Heels on April 26 at 6:30 p.m. EDT in Charlotte, North Carolina.
