A crew is working to remove water, wall and ceiling damage from Dockside Clemson and fix essential safety systems to allow the property to reopen in phases, according to the City of Clemson Fire Marshal.
Dockside Clemson plans to have fire walls in place to block off the construction and allow residents to move back in once their unit is ready. The last time frame given was three to six weeks for all restoration work to be completed, according to Bryan Johnson, the City of Clemson Fire Marshal.
The fire alarm and sprinkler company will be onsite today, and the elevator company is working on getting one elevator up and running. All three components are required in order for the fire marshal to deem the structure safe for habitation.
Each floor is being dried out and has ventilation in place, and cabinets are being removed this week.
The update comes after the fire marshal deemed Dockside an unsafe structure last week due to damage to fire alarms, sprinkler systems and elevators.
“The life safety aspect is my main concern. I don’t want someone to get injured, sick or trapped in a building that needs repairs,” Bryan Johnson said in an email.
