The information was illegally obtained and yet the facts were there, which should have prohibited him to have office in the first place; so it’s difficult to take a hard stance. But despite the charged circumstances, it may be for the best. – Samantha Taylor, Freshman Theater Production major

While he was technically impeached due to a no contact order, it came after him sitting during the pledge of allegiance, and so it sent off two different vibes.
I think if they chose to impeach him based on the no contact order even though it’s not in their bylaws and he wasn’t doing anything too incorrectly performance duties, they should’ve don’t it earlier because they knew about the no contact order but it was also based on a leaked document and so the way that they did it wasn’t the best way to go about it. And so that’s why I’m kind of like, he shouldn’t have been impeached but at the same time with the no contact order he couldn’t have effectively done his job if he can’t talk to a senator what-so-ever. [The impeachment] reflects the fact that Clemson is a PWI [predominantly white institution]. – Barbara Behr, Freshman Engineering major

It seems like a hefty case. Not sure how truthful it is. Regardless of the allegations, I think he’ll be impeached. They’ll get rid of him with it as an excuse. – Carl Merting, Senior Industrial Engineering major

My main concern about the motivations of this impeachment trial stems from the context in which it arises. Clearly the incident itself and following allegations had nothing to do with Jaren’s specific actions in social justice due to the fact they occurred at different times. However, the fact that the document was leaked after Jaren’s having acted in solidarity with Kaepernick does raise concerns. Regardless of the Senate’s attempt and ethical obligation to remain objective, the impeachment trial now exists within the context of a highly controversial national issue. For some senators, this biased perception of Jaren might be completely inextricable from the trial. The fact that no one can be sure of the Senate’s ability to remain objective in this regard would be much less of an issue if this impeachment trial occurred separately from Jaren’s recent actions speaks directly to the effect it’s having on the trial before it has even started. – Alexa Swick, Senior Psychology and English double major

![I believe that [it’s] unequivocally about race. It seems like a witch hunt given his history of protesting the pledge, which is his right, however unpopular. It also seems unethical given that Stewart’s shady history as an RA was dug up purposefully to slander him. It all seems really without purpose and vengeful.
