In case you didn’t hear, Bowman Field is being turned into a massive, Seaworld-esque swimming pool, complete with water attractions and a lazy river.
Bowman Field, the grassy epitome of Clemson tradition, has been an icon for decades. It can be found in Clemson promotional videos and in the background of Homecoming Weekend Instagram posts. It is full of sun-seeking students on warm spring days, but alas, not all things are things that last.
Clemson University, after much debate, has decided to do away with the field, claiming that the fertilizer needed and general upkeep is “far too expensive to continue”, especially with the increases in average temperature during the spring and summer seasons.
Although this may be a point of contention for students, faculty, and alumni, there is no need to worry. Bowman will be appropriately renamed to “Bowman Pool”, and public surveys will be sent out to those affected for their inputs on what should be implemented in the months to come.
The transition from Bowman Field to Bowman Pool might be difficult for some, but with the campus-wide construction already in place, it will be nothing more than a bump in the road on the journey to campus revitalization.
