This year, needless to say, has been rough in many, many ways. With all the struggles we’ve faced, people have been forced to make many changes to normal day-to-day living. For most, classes take place behind a screen, masks are now a permanent fashion staple, and nearly everyone has at least one bottle of hand sanitizer on them at all times. With all these new changes to how we do life, there is a new one that will help make the rest of this crazy time (looking at you 2021) a little more bearable: switching espresso shots to vodka shots.
Now, that may seem unexpected or a little crazy, but hear me out. First of all, with classes being online, coffee isn’t as much of a necessity as it used to be. Most times you don’t even have to get out of bed for class, nevermind waking up incredibly early just to try to find a good parking spot on campus. The need for that caffeine to wake you up isn’t all that important then, since you should be getting more sleep. But maybe you still want something that will give you a bit of a boost for the day. That’s where the vodka comes in.
Think about the days when you used to go downtown freely, and a friend would order a round of shots for the table. You’d hype yourself up to face the alcohol, giving yourself a nice adrenaline rush that will last even after the shot is done. Even the burn from the drink usually perks people up and makes them more alert than before. And after the initial effects have faded, you’ll be feeling a lot more positive and happy during class and throughout the rest of the day.
If the actual effects of the drink aren’t selling you, then think about it more scientifically. Vodka has a high percentage of straight alcohol. What is alcohol used for besides having a fun Friday night? That’s right, cleaning. In a time where sanitation is extremely important, protect yourself a little more with the extra boost. To quote Nick Miller, “You treat an outside wound with rubbing alcohol, you treat an inside wound with drinking alcohol. It’s science.”
It makes sense to face the craziest semester with a crazy idea. A shot of vodka instead of espresso will help you face the day (or screen) and help you thrive through the rest of the year, whether it’s during school, over a summer job or just relaxing at home. Remember to stay safe and have a happy April Fool’s!
