The No. 5 Clemson Tigers hung on in a tight match against the Boston College Eagles, winning 1-0 and securing their first conference win on Friday night.
The Tigers (3-1-1, 1-0-1 ACC) played stifling defense, as they were able to shut out the Eagles throughout the 90 minutes. Clemson allowed 12 shots total, with four shots on goal.
Clemson United got on the board in the 71st minute of the game when Misei Yoshizawa broke the scoreless tie with a left-footed shot into the bottom left corner of the goal. The shot was assisted by Joran Gerbet.
Clemson’s goalkeeper Joseph Andema played a clean game, totaling four saves in his second shutout of the season.
The first half of the game passed uneventfully, with no goals entering either net. There were nine shots attempted in the first half, eight of which came from the Tigers. The second half saw 16 attempted shots, with the Eagles taking credit for 11 and the Tigers for five.
As the game neared its end, Boston College had the ball in the attacking zone and had a corner kick and shot attempted in the final two minutes of the game. However, the Tigers’ defense continued to hold strong, keeping the Eagles out of the net and securing the victory.
Clemson United will be back in action on Monday at 6 p.m. when they take on Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts.
