Pendleton Fire Department responded to reports of a structure fire at The Smokin’ Pig around 3:45 p.m. on Friday.
Two burn victims were airlifted to the Joseph M. Still Burn Center at Doctors Hospital of Augusta, according to FOX Carolina.
The victims are employees of The Smokin’ Pig and were accidentally burned by a maintenance worker while he was working on a piece of equipment, followed by a “flash fire,” according to an Instagram post from the restaurant’s account.
The post also reported that both employees and their families are “doing well under their current circumstances.”
As of right now, the Anderson County barbecue restaurant on U.S. Highway 76 is closed.
Right after the incident, witnesses initially described an event similar to a kitchen fire, which caused an explosion, according to WSPA News 7.
The Smokin’ Pig’s management team also requested that people keep the employees in their thoughts and prayers.
This is a developing story. The Tiger will update this article with additional information as it becomes available.
