Welcome, everyone! I’m Lauren Douda, the editor of the Opinion section here at The Tiger, and I have been for two years now. I’m currently a junior double-majoring in English and secondary education, and I’m originally from Lexington, South Carolina. I’ve been involved with The Tiger since the fall of my freshman year, and it’s been hands down one of the best decisions I’ve ever made coming to Clemson.
When I first saw The Tiger at Tiger Prowl, I knew it was the place for me. Everyone with whom I have collaborated and had the opportunity to work has made a serious impact on my life. The Tiger was the first club I joined, and I wouldn’t do anything different. From the very first meeting I attended, I felt welcomed and excited to be part of something creative, collaborative and student-led. I was particularly drawn to the Opinion section, where I discovered an outlet to express anything that I wanted to, big or small, positive or negative.
While the writing is a huge part, that isn’t what kept me here; the people did. The Tiger is filled with talented, kind and driven students who care deeply about what they do, and some of my closest friends at Clemson are the people I met here. And you can’t beat the people at the Opinion desk; it is full of amazing individuals. If you’re just starting out at Clemson and feeling a little overwhelmed, I really encourage you to stop by! If you feel intimidated by the prospect of a lot of work, don’t worry! There is always a place for you, whether it be writing, copy editing, photography or anything else; you can work at your own pace.
Our Opinion section is featured on pages four and five of each issue, and we’re always looking for fresh voices and new perspectives. I hope you enjoy reading what we have to say, and I sincerely hope you’ll consider joining us this August at The Tiger! I would love to meet you!
