The Atlanta Braves’ 2021 World Series trophy stopped by Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Sunday during the Clemson vs. South Carolina baseball game, giving Clemson students an opportunity to be up close and personal with the trophy.

For Braves fans who love their Tigers too, it meant a lot for them to see the trophy showcased at Tigertown, especially during the last game of Clemson’s rivalry series. Fans waited in line to take photos with the trophy and a background banner during the four-hour event.

“It brings other aspects of home to Clemson,” said Madison Berry, a sophomore elementary education major. “Being a Braves fan my whole life makes it mean a lot more to see it here.”

The excitement for the Braves being world champions for the first time since 1995 made the trophy showing hit close to home with the fans.

“As the neighboring state to Atlanta, it brings everyone together from both places and was so cool to see it here in person, so I felt connected to my team back home too,” said John Corley, a sophomore management major, while standing in line for a photo with the trophy.

Atlanta won the championship after defeating the Houston Astros in game six of the World Series. In that championship-winning game, Braves pitcher Max Fried pitched six shutout innings to defeat the Astros and win 7-0. The game-six victory brought Atlanta a championship, as well as many Clemson students who are from South Carolina’s neighboring state.

“I am from Georgia, so it was really cool to actually watch the Braves win the trophy and then come back here and see it at Clemson,” Connor Geddings, a junior management major, said.

Peyton Williams, a junior management major, is also a Braves fan and was pleased with Sunday’s trophy presentation.

“My family are all Braves fans so to be able to even take a picture to send to them from here at [Clemson], I know it will make their day,” he said.

With the start of the 2022 Major League Baseball season in question due to a lockout, Sunday’s World Series trophy presentation gave Braves fans in Clemson a taste of a baseball championship.
