The day is near and the time has come.
Dabo Swinney, two-time National Championship winning coach, three-time Paul “Bear” Bryant Coach of the Year, and de facto president of Clemson University, has announced his resignation from Clemson.
Swinney, a former collegiate football star and receivers coach at Alabama, is headed back to his alma mater to resume coaching duties at the beginning of the summer season.
This announcement took fans and players completely off guard, many noting the unexpected timing of the transfer; Clemson is only three months off of a blowout win over Alabama in the National Championship game.
When alerted to the news, sophomore Madison Harris simply replied, “well, we’re screwed” and if this does not attest to the faith Clemson students have in their football coach, then I do not know what does.
Clemson football prides itself on being a family, being THE Wide Receiver University, and being the best ever. News of losing Dabo to his alma mater and, subjectively, the biggest rival of Clemson and the rest of the ACC, devastated students, alumni, and fans alike.
Coach Swinney, we sincerely hope you enjoy coaching back at ‘Bama. We cannot wait to add another gravestone to our yard with the words “National Champions” at the end of the 2019 season. So, to you and yours, have a great April Fool’s Day.
