Clemson University is expected to release a statement on Friday, April 16 to unveil upgrades slated for the R-6 parking lot located at 50 Vineyard Road. The R-6 lot serves the residents of Douthit Hills and will soon be home to a rather futuristic addition.
The university is partnering with Duke Energy Renewables to construct 17 solar canopies across the parking lot. Solar canopies are elevated structures built to cover parking areas and offer a more efficient use of space than solar panels built directly on the ground. This will allow Clemson to move toward a renewable energy source while at the same time utilizing existing space.
“The project is due to start in May and will be wrapping up in August as the Fall semester starts,” said Tony Putnam, director of facilities’ utilities services.
More information will be provided in the coming days.
