Clemson women’s soccer (6-1-2) goalie Halle Mackiewicz’s performance has been nothing short of exceptional this season. The senior currently leads the nation in shutouts with six clean sheets while playing a pivotal role in the team’s success on the field.
The Tigers, although initially No. 25 in the preseason poll, have steadily climbed up the United Soccer Coaches rankings and currently hold the No. 8 spot. Mackiewicz’s work is a testament to her dedication and the trust she has earned from her coaches over the years.
Head coach Eddie Radwanski had praise for Mackiewicz, emphasizing her importance on the field.
“I mean, we know she’s got our back. She has made some saves that you would think goals are going in,” Radwanski said. “She is aggressive, she is confident and she owns the box.”
Mackiewicz’s teammates share a similar sentiment.
“I think it’s all about confidence; we have so much confidence in her, and in the air, she is a complete dog,” graduate forward Caroline Conti said following the team’s draw against South Carolina. “Dog is the word for this year, and she was a dog today.”
Prior to joining Clemson, Mackiewicz had already established herself as a standout player with the Real Colorado club team, as she was named a top-25 player in the nation in 2020. Additionally, she represented the United States at various youth levels, where she spent time with the U15, U17, U19 and U20 national teams.
Upon her arrival in Tigertown, Mackiewicz made an immediate impact. In the fall of her freshman year, she made two appearances against Florida State and Duke, who were both nationally ranked at the time. She played the full 90 minutes and tallied nine saves across the two matches. Eight of those saves came in a single match against the Seminoles.
Mackiewicz continued to impress in her sophomore year despite playing in only six matches (three starts). Notable moments included another shutout at Gardner-Webb and a season-high four saves against Florida State, a consistent powerhouse in women’s soccer.
The goalie’s junior season cemented her as a brick wall in the net. She started in all 18 matches for the Tigers, establishing a presence between the posts. She recorded a career-high 59 saves during the season, making crucial stops to keep her team in contention throughout the year throughout her 1,579 minutes on the field. She also secured seven shutouts, four of which came against ranked opponents.
As the current season progresses, Mackiewicz has already accumulated 778 minutes on the pitch with a save percentage of .800. Despite the Tigers’ recent loss to the No. 4 Florida State, their first defeat of the season, they remain a formidable team in college soccer, firmly holding their position among the top contenders.
