A Thursday morning police chase on Clemson’s Highway 76 has left one person dead.
At around 8:30 a.m. today, the Central Police Department was pursuing a 2005 Honda Accord traveling west on Highway 93.
The Honda attempted to take the exit to Highway 76 when the car swerved off the left side of the road, fell down an embankment and capsized, according to WSPA 7 News.
Several South Carolina agencies then responded to the scene.
The driver was transported to a nearby hospital, where they later passed away due to injuries caused by the crash. The person’s identity has not yet been released.
According to Clemson University Public Safety, all traffic exiting Clemson and traveling towards Anderson on Highway 76 is currently being diverted to Highway 93 while the scene is investigated.
