The Clemson Tigers square off on their home pitch against the No. 10 Pittsburgh Panthers at 6 p.m. in a highly anticipated match at the Historic Riggs Field.
The Tigers (2-0-1) come in hot, ranked as the No. 3 team in the nation and are riding a two-game win streak.
Clemson most notably defeated UAB in dominating fashion last Friday, 6-0. Ransford Gyan, the sophomore midfielder, had a masterful showing, finishing the match with two goals and one assist.
Gyan has only exceeded expectations since arriving at Clemson, winning ACC Freshman of the Year last season, and looks to continue to do so against an elite Panthers team.
Pittsburgh (2-1-0) is looking to bounce back after a gritty 1-0 loss against Georgetown, its only defeat to date this season. The team’s two wins came at home against Quinnipiac and Michigan State.
Graduate midfielder Arnau Vilamitjana stole the show in Pittsburgh’s win over the Spartans, scoring two goals in only two minutes and six seconds. The midfielder set a program record for the shortest time between goals for an individual player.
Fans are anticipating a fierce and action-packed match. Both teams have had this Friday night circled on their calendars for a while, knowing it’s a must-win.
