George Strait will return to Tigertown this May, Clemson University announced on Oct. 17. The last concert in Death Valley was in 1999, when the country music legend headlined his own music festival in the stadium.
When Strait rocks Death Valley on May 2, he’ll be supported by Cody Johnson and Wyatt Flores. According to a press release from the University, Strait will be performing an “in-the-round” stadium show, meaning that the stage will be located in the center of the field, allowing a larger audience to enjoy the show than in a standard concert setup.
Strait is one of the best-selling country artists of all time, with a 31-album discography that includes 27 No. 1 Billboard Top Country Albums. He’s set multiple attendance records for concerts by a single artist, so tickets are almost certain to sell quickly once they go on sale later this month.
Johnson, like Strait, is a Texas native who embodies a classic country sound. He has released nine albums since debuting in 2006 and won multiple CMT Music awards. Flores released his debut full-length album earlier this year, following a feature on the “Twisters” movie soundtrack.
Artist presale for the concert begins on Oct. 27, followed by an Oct. 28 IPTAY presale. General sale for current Clemson staff and students opens on Oct. 29, alumni may purchase tickets beginning on Oct. 30 and sale to the general public starts on Halloween.
