Because of its convenience, Cooper Library has always been a hotspot for studying. However, it is quite crowded when midterms and finals are afoot.
My favorite study spot in the library seems to always be occupied, with each floor consistently packed. Most of the time, there is a long line at Starbucks, and it feels like it takes longer to find a seat than it does to actually study. Even though the lowest floor has some good study spots and is quiet, it can feel dull and isolating.
The library should not be your go-to study destination; seek other locations. As a senior, I have discovered all of the sweet spots to study around campus over the years.
Go to buildings around campus that have nice, big windows. I enjoy the view of Clemson when studying, so buildings like Hillard, Brackett or Sirrine Hall are always welcoming to my educational experience — and my relaxation experience!
For outdoor options, Bowman Field and the updated Reflection Pond are great choices. Instead of the loud chatter and stuffy interior of the library, I can hear the soft whisper of leaves dancing in the breeze or the gentle sounds of water trickling at the pond as I study, write essays, read or work on this article.
However, with Homecoming around the corner, Bowman Field will most likely become a big party for the construction of parade floats.
If you want to be away from campus, downtown provides some good options, as well.
Starbucks may be the prime proprietor for a nice treat while studying with that sweet, bitter smell of coffee in the atmosphere, but there are local coffee shops like Summer Moon Coffee or All In Coffee Shop and restaurants like Delish Sisters or Sully’s Steamers to consider.
The Clemson area offers a varied selection of places with pleasant aesthetics, great food and good vibes without the hassle. So don’t worry about trying to find a spot in Cooper, find a new study spot that is all yours. Good luck studying!
