A possible firearm sighting in the Lightsey Bridge area resulted in a shelter-in-place and CUSafeAlert to be issued late Friday afternoon. There is no ongoing threat to the area and the shelter-in-place order has since been lifted.
Clemson University Police Department received information about an individual with a firearm and proceeded to identify the person and secure the area, according to a statement provided to The Tiger by Philip Sikes, Communications Director for Student Affairs.
There is no reported connection to the previous incident at Lightsey Bridge a few weeks ago, where a Tennessee fugitive was apprehended by CUPD after they locked down the area.
The university added that the investigation is ongoing in order to gather all facts related to the incident.
This is a developing story and The Tiger will update with more information as it becomes available.
