Fans await on the football team to run down the hill at Memorial Stadium

As the country reopens, sports are returning to normal. Unlike last year, students and fans will be able to enjoy football game days in Clemson as many did before the pandemic. For students who may be new to campus, here are some ways to have a great college football Saturday.

Go to the game

While going to the game may be the most obvious activity for a Saturday in Clemson, the decision should not be overlooked. As a result of Clemson Football being dominant at home and often blowing out their opponents, some students may choose to forgo going to the game. Students should remember that there is nothing like hearing 81,500 fans screaming at the top of their lungs, and most students only have 4 years to experience a game in the student section. After nearly losing to Boston College at home last year, look for the rematch on Oct. 2 to be perhaps the most highly anticipated home game for the Tigers. Last season, the maximum capacity of Memorial Stadium was a mere 19,000 people, yet the stadium still had an electric atmosphere. With the anticipation of a normal year, expect every home game to be as loud as ever with an energized buzz that could make this season unlike any other.

Watch the game in downtown Clemson

Downtown Clemson may appear small compared to other college cities, but what downtown lacks in sizeit makes up for in atmosphere. From Charleston Sports Pub to Tiger Town Tavern, there are plenty of unique and thrilling places to watch the Tigers play football. TD’s is another excellent place to go for the game. With some of the best chicken wings in Clemson, along with a pool table and many televisions, TD’s has everything you could want in a sports bar.

Tailgate

Last season, fans were deprived of packed streets and parking lots, as the COVID-19 pandemic forced college football to be without tailgating across the country. This season, however, students and fans will once again be able to enjoy cookouts and cornhole as they wait for kickoff. If you have not seen a tailgate in Clemson yet, head out to the C-3 parking lot west of Memorial Stadium because you are in for a treat! Thousands of fans pack the entire area around the stadium, leaving a sea of purple and orange as far as the eye can see. There are also off-campus tailgates that some throw, so keep an eye out for any invitations that might come your way. Even if you are not a die-hard Clemson Football fan, tailgating in Clemson is one of the most incredible experiences a student can have!

Have a watch party in your dorm or apartment

If you want to stay in for game day, having a watch party with friends is another great option. Sometimes it is a much more enjoyable experience to watch the game from your couch than going out, especially if the weather is poor. If you decide to stay in and live on campus, Clemson provides a free cable service called Stream2 that will allow you to watch the game for free. All in all, going out on a Saturday is a great way to meet new people and feel involved with Clemson AthleticsHowever, if you need a break, do not hesitate to invite some friends to watch the game in your dorm or apartment.
