Clemson men’s tennis took on Charlotte this past Sunday at the Duckworth Family Tennis Facility. Coming off a tough loss to Auburn on Friday, No. 16 Clemson, 3-2, successfully defeated Charlotte, 4-1, with a 5-2 win.
The match opened with the Tigers taking control in doubles play. Clemson’s chemistry was on full display.
In the No. 1 doubles spot, Viktor Markov and Henrik Bladelius battled Charlotte in a tightly contested matchup. Meanwhile, Manuel Plunger and Noa Vukadin competed in the No. 2 position. Every doubles match was a grind, with both the No. 1 and No. 2 matches locking in multiple ties before Clemson closed each one out with 7-5 victories. Courts. No. 1 and No. 2 securing a doubles point stopped the No. 3 doubles team of Matisse Farzam and Yannic Nittmann.
Singles play continued the theme of close sets, with Clemson putting in the work when it mattered most. The first match to finish was a one-sided contest on Court No. 4, where Edoardo Cherie Ligniere earned a convincing 6-0, 6-2 win, giving Clemson early stability.
That was followed by No. 5 Bladelius, who added another point to the board and pushed the Tigers to a 3-0 lead. Charlotte did not back down, as Moritz Muenster won in straight sets over Nittman to put the 49ers on the board.
Clemson stayed strong through the remainder of the match, with Farzam turning a 3-3 deadlock into 6-3 finishes in both sets. Farzam’s win was the clincher.
At the top of the lineup, Markov showed determination, rallying from behind in each set to clinch a 7-5, 7-5 victory. Although Clemson had already etched another win to its record, Charlotte continued to compete, with Vasco Prata earning a consolation point, making the final score 5-2 in favor of the Tigers.
Next, the Tigers are on the road and scheduled to compete at the 2026 ITA National Indoor Championships Feb. 13-17, with match times and opponents to be determined.
