As I round out my time at Clemson, it felt necessary to take the chance to revisit one of The Tiger’s most beloved columns from the past few years and write a coffee shop review.
One of the area’s most popular spots, Daydrinkers, has been consistently popping up in my social media feeds, convincing me to give its Seneca location a shot.
The shop offers a coastal-industrial ambiance with exposed brick walls and beams, offset by nautical-themed artwork spanning the walls, seashell lamps and small jars atop tables, akin to decor you might expect in a home by the sea. Still, there is a distinctly homey feel set by vintage sofas, farmhouse dressers and vintage clothing racks. Large windows look out onto the sidewalk and into downtown Seneca, making people-watching an easy pastime.
Seating is split into three levels, each offering a different feel. The main floor houses the entry, coffee bar, clothing racks, merchandise and a handful of seating options. Natural light pours in through a full wall of windows, creating a bright and welcoming ambiance. The top level, just five steps up from the entry, is styled like a dining room with tables and chairs, but also offers benches and a rail bar for extra seating.
A floor below sits the best option of all: a cozier space with couches arranged in a living room-style layout and high-top tables. The area feels reminiscent of a home basement, not unfinished or hidden away, but cozy, welcoming and comfortable.
The coffee bar features a case of house-made pastries, including a cranberry pop-tart, coffee cake and a spiced pear galette with caramel. House specials were listed on a handout at the ordering station, offering sandwiches and treats alike. I chose a simple option: the “Honey, I’m Home,” a slice of toast topped with almond butter and a honey drizzle. While very good, it was not far off from something I could easily craft at home.
My latte, chosen by the barista, was another story. She suggested the drink she was sipping on herself, a vanilla honey latte, which proved to be the perfect complement to the honey-drizzled toast. The morning quickly took up a theme of sweet, simple and surprisingly delightful, a welcome motif to start off my Sunday morning.
The drink itself was excellent, striking a balance between honeyed and vanilla sweetness while maintaining a rich coffee base. The more I drank, the more I enjoyed it.
The crowd during my hour-long visit was mixed. Though the majority of patrons were college-aged women, there were also a mix of couples, catch-ups, study groups and work-from-home types popping in and out of the shop. As the morning progressed, the shop grew livelier, with lines reaching the door around 9:30 a.m.
Baristas were welcoming and accommodating, chatting easily with customers, several of whom appeared to be regulars.
Though I took a simple route with my selections, the bakery case showcased plenty of decadent options and other coffee drinkers walked out with more adventurous coffees and matchas — a path I fully plan to explore on my next visit.
Whether you come for the cozy couches, the honey-sweet lattes or the people-watching, it’s a spot that makes staying a little longer on a Sunday morning feel like the right choice — and one I’ll gladly return to.
