The Clemson University Wildlife Society will be hosting their 42nd Annual Buzzard Banquet on Monday, April 4 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Esso Club. This dinner is open to the public, but a ticket is required to attend. Advance tickets are available for $12 and at the door for $18.
The Buzzard Banquet is a long-standing tradition featuring a wild game dinner that benefits the Clemson chapter of the Wildlife Society.
The banquet has served all sorts of meats, including duck, deer, bear, elk, raccoon, pork, quail, squirrel, fish and even alligator. If that does not sound like your kind of dinner, fear not, since the dinner will likely also have regular burgers and pulled pork sandwiches as well as all the traditional southern sides like mashed potatoes, corn, mac and cheese, green beans and coleslaw. Dinner will conclude with dessert. The menu for this year’s banquet will be set in the coming weeks.
In addition to dinner, there will also be a raffle and a silent auction with lots of unique handmade pieces as well as gift cards, items and experiences all from local businesses.
The Wildlife Society is a professional organization that focuses on sound scientific management and conservation of wildlife. The Clemson chapter works to unite people of different majors who are passionate about wildlife.
Throughout the year, the Wildlife Society takes trips to events such as the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition and Conclave, where they compete against other schools in practical skills like shooting, scientific skills like dendrology (tree identification) and trivia where teams can test their knowledge of various aspects of wildlife. The Buzzard Banquet helps to fund these networking and learning opportunities.
In preparation for this year’s banquet, the Wildlife Society is looking for wild game and raffle donations from the community. If you would like to donate please contact [email protected] or call Emery Tumbleston at (843) 637-7588 for more information.
