Three strikes, you’re out! It’s no shocker that softball player Valerie Cagle received the most votes for best female athlete.
Straight from Yorktown, Virginia, Cagle enrolled at Clemson University in 2019. As this year’s softball season starts back up, the team is counting on Cagle to help lead them to victory.
Cagle’s many accomplishments include USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Top-10 finalist, NFCA National Freshman of the Year Top-3 finalist, NFCA Second Team All-American and ACC Player of the Year.
Cagle is one of only two Clemson players to start all 52 games, 32 of which she played as the team’s pitcher. She proved to be an asset to the team when she led the team in hits, RBIs, homeruns and doubles. Meanwhile, her .821 slugging percentage led the ACC and ranked 21st nationally.
With her 2021 batting average being .404, she helped lead the team to 29 ACC victories last season.
“The vision that the coaching staff was presenting was exactly what I wanted,” Cagle said of why she decided to attend Clemson. “Additionally, I could not pass up the opportunity to be a part of the inaugural season of Clemson softball.”
Cagle’s many accomplishments prove herself worthy of best female athlete and fans can see her play in the Tigers’ first home game on Friday, Feb. 25.
