Ahead of Clemson’s home game against South Carolina on Saturday, The Tiger interviewed students from both schools to collect their perspectives on the rivalry.
Question: Is Clemson or the University of South Carolina superior, and why?
Clemson — Olivia Daniell: “Clemson is superior to South Carolina in every aspect, and there is just no competition. The vibes at Clemson are unmatched every day. Death Valley is one of a kind, and our fourth-quarter hype video is one of the best moments in college football. You couldn’t pay me to go to the University of South Carolina. Who wants to be called a cock?”
South Carolina — Julia Flynn: “Even though it’s cocky, USC is definitely superior because you will never be bored. There’s something fun to do every day of the week. And, what other schools can compare to our frat lots on game days?“
Olivia Daniell is a sophomore marketing major at Clemson University.
Julia Flynn is a freshman elementary education major at the University of South Carolina.
Question: Have you been to a rivalry game before, and what was the atmosphere like?
Clemson — Grant Warren: “Last rivalry game USC came with some heat, but Clemson was just hotter. It was crazy, and Clemson was just automatic.”
South Carolina — Arturo Marciano: “At the last rivalry game, the USC fans showed out, and it was one of the loudest sporting events I’ve ever been to. Unfortunately, it didn’t go our way. The energy was gone by halftime because we were getting dominated. However, I have hopes that over my next years at USC, we’ll take one of these games.”
Grant Warren is a sophomore biological sciences major at Clemson University.
Arturo Marciano is a sophomore finance major at the University of South Carolina.
Question: Who do you think will win?
Clemson — Marina Pietz: “Clemson is easily going to destroy the cocks. I think Dabo is going to get his 41st straight win at home. Carolina has not beaten us since 2013, and they will not be beating us anytime soon.”
South Carolina — Ben Wallace: “This weekend’s rivalry game will be close, but USC will definitely win! The score will be 32-30 because USC is just better.”
Marina Pietz is a sophomore industrial engineering major at Clemson University.
Ben Wallace is a sophomore business major at the University of South Carolina.
