Another week, another coffee corner! Whether you are a caffeine connoisseur, or a casual consumer, we all can appreciate a good cup of coffee, some delicious pastries and a chill place to study or hang with your friends. With coffee as a staple amongst our relentless college lives, I have set out to try and review all cafes and coffee shops available to Clemson students. This week, we’re taking a look at a Clemson classic, Moe Joe Coffee Co.

Moe Joe Coffee Co. has been a prime coffee destination for many Clemson students. Located on Old Greenville Highway, it’s the perfect stop between campus and the many off-campus residential spaces in Central.

The first of three categories cafes are judged on is, simply put, vibes. The atmosphere and comfortability of a coffee shop is a key element to the coffee experience, and Moe Joe provides some wonderful vibes.

Some cafes provide better vibes for socializing, while others pride themselves on being excellent study spaces, but Moe Joe has it all. The downstairs was lively, accented with different plants and decor, plus a stage for live performances! In contrast, the upstairs was much quieter and made for an excellent spot to catch up on homework.

Overall, Moe Joe gets a 5 out of 5 on vibes.

The next category is food. Coffee is fantastic on its own, but a good pastry paired with it can bring any drink to the next level. Moe Joe offers a variety of baked goods as well as breakfast and lunch specials. In my time there, I was able to try their ham and Swiss sandwich alongside an old favorite of mine, the lemon poppy seed muffin.

Both classics and both done justice by Moe Joe. Nothing was mind-blowing, but sometimes a classic done well is just what you need. The ham and Swiss was nice and savory, and the lemon poppy seed muffin was dense, zesty and a perfect treat alongside my coffee.

Overall, I can give no less than a 4 out of 5 to Moe Joe Coffee Co.’s food.

Last, but certainly not least, the coffee. Typically, I’m partial to ordering a simple hazelnut latte, but the variety of specialty drinks Moe Joe had to offer pulled me into something new. I ordered their Black Tiger, a hot latte with dark chocolate, caramel and vanilla. In theory, it sounds delicious, and in practice, proves absolutely tasty. Separate, the flavors are classic favorites in their own right, but together they pair incredibly well. The espresso was rich and smooth, tying together a perfect drink.

The coffee of Moe Joe Coffee Co. deserves nothing but a 5 out of 5.

If you ever find yourself wanting a sweet latte, some tasty treats and possibly some live music and events with your friends, Moe Joe Coffee Co. is a fantastic choice.
