Kappa Kappa Gamma and Pi Kappa Alpha collaborated to host the second annual Kappa Karnival event to raise money for the JED Foundation and the Operation Red Wings Foundation.
After raising around $20,000 last year, this year’s Kappa Karnival event has brought in over $30,000, according to Meryl Henderson, the Kappa Kappa Gamma philanthropy chair.
Kappa Kappa Gamma is raising money for the JED Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded in 2000 that supports mental health awareness in colleges and promotes suicide prevention by giving students the skills and support they need.
Pi Kappa Alpha partnered with Kappa Kappa Gamma to raise money for its philanthropic organization, the Operation Red Wings Foundation. The Operation Red Wings Foundation supports mental health among veterans and their families by providing them no-cost support through retreats and therapy check-ins.
The event took place in Tiger Park on April 12, with various carnival-themed activities for Clemson students and community members. Desserts and food were available, along with bounce houses and slides. All admissions profits were donated to the two philanthropic organizations.
“Pi Kappa Alpha is planning to do the majority of our philanthropic events closer to Veterans Day, as our organization supports those that celebrate the holiday, but Kappa Karnival was our main event for the spring semester,” Aidan Stacey, the Pi Kappa Alpha philanthropy chair, said.
Kappa Kappa Gamma typically organizes one main philanthropic event every semester, with additional smaller events hosted throughout, to raise money for the JED Foundation.
Kappa Karnival will continue to be an annual event each spring, with a new philanthropy fundraiser project coming this fall, which has yet to be disclosed.
