An outing to the movie theater with friends or family has been a hallmark of the American college experience for many years. However, in the era of COVID-19, this tradition has come to a screeching halt. Now, the best place to enjoy a movie marathon is from the comfort of your own home. What could be better than snuggling up with your softest blanket and favorite snacks? As another added bonus, you get to avoid the high ticket prices and the even higher concession stand costs. Nothing beats a free movie night in with your significant other or cuddly pet, dressed up in old pajamas that you would never wear out to the movie theater. The possibilities are endless from the luxury of your living room — blanket forts, pillow fights and all the popcorn you can eat.
There are other benefits to streaming entertainment as well. “I love that there is an ability to co-watch movies on some streaming sites,” Margaret Milteer, a senior anthropology major, said. “I have been able to watch movies with friends in other states which is impossible to do with regular movie theaters!” Although it is a bummer that COVID-19 closed many students’ go-to activity for weeknight fun, there’s plenty of enjoyment to be had from your very own home with the help of blankets, snacks and a Netflix subscription.
