What makes Clemson, Clemson? If you ask local residents or students, they will give you a plethora of answers, so let the “Greetings from Clemson” mural, located on the side of Tiger Sports Shop downtown, walk you through some of what Clemson has to offer.
The colorful artwork takes home its second consecutive Best of Clemson win this year — and for very good reason. Created in 2019, the mural uses the letters in “Clemson” to highlight several iconic symbols.
The “C” flaunts Clemson’s location on Lake Hartwell and in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains with depictions of boats, a rushing waterfall and kayakers.
The “L” spotlights Clemson’s extensive military college history.
The “E” displays the historic President’s House, which is located on campus.
“M” showcases Tillman Hall’s brick clock tower, whose bells ring periodically during the day.
“S” recognizes Harvey Gantt, the first African American student to enroll at Clemson, and his rich and impactful legacy at the University.
“O” depicts the Caboose Garden at the South Carolina Botanical Garden.
Lastly, the “N” references the 1975 film “The Midnight Man,” which was partially shot on Clemson’s campus.
The “Greetings from Clemson” mural wouldn’t exist without the hard work of the Tiger Wall Art Association, a student organization started back in 2018. The mural’s artists, who are now Clemson alumni, are recognized on the organization’s Instagram account, @tigerwallaa.
Now in its sixth year of existence, this heartfelt project continues to be appreciated as a celebration of all that Clemson has to offer.
