The Reflection Pond in front of R.M. Cooper Library has yet to be refilled, even with construction being completed.
The reflection pond construction was set to be finished in May 2025. However, completion was delayed until the beginning of August.
Three highlight points to the renovation include “ADA Accessibility Around Reflection Pond, Improved Water Circulation to Prevent Stagnant Water” and “Filling in and Creating a Gathering Space in South West Corner of Pond,” according to Clemson University Facilities.
“For students who need ADA accommodations, this is a huge win. Now they are able to enjoy the reflection pond as everyone else does,” Dominic Henriquez, a senior sociology major, told The Tiger in an interview.
Per ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) guidelines, the University must have a minimum width of 36 inches for the surrounding area of the pond.
The University also conducted a tree management plan for the trees that surround the pond. In this, the Clemson University Landscape Services team has been acquired to help preserve the trees.
“This plan specifies that Tree protection fencing will be installed, and construction activities will be restricted to only inside of the fencing. This fencing will be 5 feet in height and comprised of portable sections or roll fencing with posts 8 foot on center,” the Clemson University Facilities website states.
It is unclear when the pond will be refilled with water as of this time.
