“How do I deal with imposter syndrome within my major?”
Feeling like an imposter within your major is more common than anyone ever admits aloud. A lot of students, both freshmen and seniors alike, think that it means they picked the wrong field of study.
However, it usually just means that they’re in a space with people who care about the same things they do, which makes comparison loud. One helpful reframe is to recognize that your confidence and your competence do not grow at the same speed. Your brain will tell you you’re behind long before you actually are.
Treat learning like training, not judging. And stop assuming everyone knows more than you; they often don’t.
Feeling that imposter syndrome isn’t evidence that you don’t fit, it’s evidence that you’re growing.
