The city of Clemson has been nominated by USA Today for Best Small College Town and Best Small Town in the South as a part of the Readers’ Choice Awards.
For Best Small College Town, USA Today selected 20 locations that represent a population of 50,000 or less that “have fun, youthful vibes, unexpected dining and shopping options, and plenty of cultural offerings.” Clemson is one of these 20.
Similarly, the city was also nominated for Best Small Town in the South out of 20 locations. The criteria for this nomination are a population of fewer than 25,000, a place for relaxing getaways, cultural immersion, outdoor activities and delightful food options.
Former student body president Zach Freeman emphasized that Clemson is “more than just a college town.”
“It is a community united by a shared purpose and a deep commitment to the people who call it home,” Freeman told The Tiger in an interview.
Freeman also noted that the town is centered around the University and that it brings everyone together, whether students, alumni, residents or faculty. He added that everyone in the Clemson community “works together to create meaningful opportunities and lasting relationships.”
He told The Tiger that the city of Clemson becomes a home for the people who are here.
“The traditions, friendships, love and spirit found here reflect a town where people genuinely care for one another and take pride in supporting the institution that binds us together,” Freeman said, also emphasizing that Clemson is special and deserves recognition for both nominations.
