Snowflakes, Santa hats and the sound of children’s laughter fill the air at Clemson’s Fike Recreation Center each December. For one special afternoon, the Christmas 4 Kids event turns campus into a place where holiday dreams come true and the true meaning of giving shines brightest.
Hosted by the Thomas F. Chapman Leadership Scholars Program in collaboration with the University’s volunteers, local businesses and community partners, this special day welcomes more than 100 underprivileged children from local Title I schools for an afternoon of holiday games, crafts and Christmas cheer. Each child is paired with a Clemson student, their buddy for the day, forming a one-on-one connection that brings mentorship, friendship and pure holiday magic to life.
These Clemson students turn into elves for the day, supplying their buddy with two gifts straight from their wishlists — one to open during the event and one to take home for Christmas morning. Together, they enjoy Christmas activities like snowball fights, sleigh pulls, crafts, games and even experience a visit from Santa Claus himself, filling Fike with the joy and wonder of the holiday season.
Beyond the fun, Christmas 4 Kids makes a lasting difference. Thanks to generous donations from local businesses, student organizations and community members, every child also receives a bag of winter essentials and additional surprise gifts. Families benefit from coats, hats, gloves and food donations collected throughout the season, ensuring the spirit of giving continues long after the event ends.
But this Christmas magic only happens because of the people who make it possible. From student buddies to donors and sponsors, every person who gives their time, resources or support helps create a brighter holiday for local children. Teachers, parents and volunteers often share heartfelt stories about how much the day means to them, and how the experience touches lives across the community.
This season, you can be part of the joy. Sign up to volunteer, donate money or essentials, or help spread the word to friends, family and local businesses. Every act of generosity — big or small — helps make Christmas 4 Kids a success.

At its core, Christmas 4 Kids reminds the Clemson family that the greatest gifts aren’t found under the tree, but in the joy of giving, the warmth of community and the power of serving others.
