The Clemson Undergraduate Student Body Senate will hold a special meeting this Thursday to vote on a new temporary rule proposed by the elections board following a ticket’s disqualification.
CUSG said in a statement released Wednesday that on Sunday, Feb. 1, the board disqualified Trey Dowling and Sasha Suggs, who were running for student body president and vice president, for the upcoming election cycle.
Dowling, a junior financial management major, and Suggs, a junior biological sciences major, began campaigning on Jan. 28. A hearing was then held on Feb. 3 following the election board’s finding, which confirmed the initial disqualification.
Dowling told The Tiger that the two are currently exercising their option to appeal the results of the disqualification.
Any further updates will be posted on CUSG’s Instagram page.
The board has proposed that if one of the eligible candidates is disqualified, the secretary of elections may delay elections by seven days.
The new election calendar will be as follows:
New candidates will have until Feb. 15 at 11:59 p.m. to hold an interest meeting with the secretary of elections to formally file for candidacy.
Primary campaigning season will begin at 8 a.m. on Feb. 16. The final campaign platform will be due by 11:59 p.m. on Feb. 22. A general debate will take place on March 4, with election day scheduled for March 11 and results to be announced March 13.
If there are no new candidates, elections will be held the same week they were originally scheduled. The ballot will have only a write-in choice.
CUSG will vote on this temporary rule on Thursday, Feb. 5.
