South Carolinians, you need to ship your sons and daughters off to war in the Middle East. Or at least that’s what longtime senator Lindsey Graham thinks.
Graham has been in Washington, D.C. since 1995, representing South Carolina’s third district before becoming a senator in 2003. At 70 years old, Graham has spent nearly half his life in Congress, and his comments made on Fox News this past week show just how out of touch that time has made him with his constituents.
“I go back to South Carolina, I’m asking them to send their sons and daughters over to the Middle East,” Graham said.
I’ve lived in South Carolina practically my whole life. I don’t know of a single person here who wants to send off their children to die in war, much less be asked to do so by a decades-long politician.
Perhaps even worse than Graham’s complete disregard for the interests of South Carolinians is his apparent loyalty to a foreign country, which is none other than the ever-controversial nation of Israel.
In that same Fox News interview, Graham said about isolationists, “I’m not with you, I’m with Israel. I will be with Israel until our dying day.” Saying such a thing is almost treasonous.
But that somehow wasn’t even the worst thing he said in the interview. He ended the interview saying, “God bless Israel, we should move all our stuff to Israel.”
When saying such, he couldn’t contain himself, laughing as he closed off — almost as if he knew just how terrible of a take it was.
All these comments came from a sitting U.S. senator who said just weeks ago that he visits Israel every two weeks. I’m not certain he visits the state he is supposed to be representing as often.
It is clear that Graham is no longer in tune with his constituents after serving in Congress for over three decades. South Carolina deserves much better, someone who will properly represent the state and its best interests rather than those of a foreign nation.
This summer, I encourage South Carolinians to challenge Graham in the Republican primary, especially because of how red the state is. If Graham is the Republican nominee come November, he almost certainly has another six-year term locked up.
It’s clear it’s time for change. It’s up to voters to make that change possible, a change that is needed more now than possibly ever before.

I agree, time to retire him.
