The Dikes have been a prime location for avid runners, dog walkers and sunset-watchers alike for many years. Conveniently located next to The Esso Club and overlooking Lake Hartwell, the steep hills and walking trails are a popular spot during the warm months, and, as evidenced by the flurry of activity during the winter storms, are the perfect incline for sledding.

Students and staff alike raced down the hills on homemade sleds fashioned from any household object imaginable, from trash can lids to pizza boxes to plastic wrap. Even Clemson football head coach Dabo Swinney joined in on the fun.

“So today, I’m going down a different hill, in a different way,” said Swinney before jumping onto a makeshift sled and flying down the snowy hill. Based on the judgment of both Clemson’s beloved coach and students, the Dikes are the best place to spend a rare snowy day.
