Head coach Daddy Swindler announced on Friday that Clemson football is taking over Bowman Field and converting it into their newest practice spot.
“After a disappointing last couple of seasons, it’s clear that we need to up our facilities game,” Daddy said. “What could be more attractive and inspiring than having practices on one of the most iconic spots in all of college sports?”
This will also help with athlete security and safety, according to Athletic Director Grum Nuff.
“Our athletes kept getting in trouble with the scooters we gave them, so it became clear that we needed a spot a little closer to where they live and spend most of their time,” Nuff said.
To ensure athlete safety, a 12-foot wall topped with razor wire will be built around the perimeter of Bowman. All of the iconic trees around the field will also be cut down.
“Of course, we know this is a very sensitive area of campus, and we are paying attention to that,” John McDeere, University capital projects director, said. “The wall will be made out of antique brick to blend in with the campus.”
Students will not be allowed on the field at any time, and any students found in the general area after 10 p.m. will be subject to police brutality to make sure football players are as safe as possible.
In many ways, this is a return to form, with Bowman originally being cleared as a practice area for the baseball and other sports teams during the University’s first years.
Construction is expected to start in two weeks, after which this iconic Clemson spot will be out of reach for most of the Clemson family forever.
