Downtown Clemson offers many locations to welcome the throngs of college students on weekend nights: Study Hall, Loose Change, Tiger Town Tavern and Todaro Pizza, to name a few. Unlike the other establishments on that list, Todaro Pizza does not rely on selling cold alcohol for business but rather piping hot slices of New York-style pizza.
When looking for pizza, particularly late at night, Clemson residents should look no further than Todaro’s, as it was voted by students as the best pizza place in Clemson. The hole-in-the-wall was started by immigrants in New Jersey, and the popular recipe was brought to Clemson in September 2000. Since then, Todaro’s has been one of the most popular late-night spots for students.
Todaro’s always possesses a healthy crowd during the week, particularly on Wednesdays from 6-9 p.m. when slices are just $1. However, Todaro’s hits its stride on late Friday and Saturday nights, when lines form well onto the sidewalk.
“Our most popular nights are the weekend after everyone has got off the bar. It’s a madhouse here,” manager Seth Clark told The Tiger.
But Clark, like many other employees, loves the energy of the packed store on a late night.
“This is the spot for late night. Get your pizza after the bar,” Clark said.
Todaro’s makes almost everything in-house, emphasizing the quality of ingredients. Although many vital features contribute to the distinct New York taste, one feature stands out among the rest: the crust.
“The best part is the homemade dough. The dough is just NY style, homemade; we make it here every night,” Clark said. “We’ve got that delicious crust and all the sauce made in-house.”
Nothing compares to a steaming slice of late-night Todaro Pizza, so whether you are a resident or visiting Clemson for the first time, Todaro’s is the place to go.
