With its looming windows and pillars, Fike Recreation Center seems to blend in with the rest of Clemson University’s west campus. But even now, after 95 years, the amenities in Fike are enjoyed by all of the Clemson family.
Located in the heart of campus, Fike Recreation Center has served its students’ fitness needs since 1930. The gym offers a variety of accommodations for your goals, including strength equipment, treadmills, basketball courts and even a climbing wall. With these amenities, and many more, it is easy to see why Fike was voted the best place in Clemson to get in a workout.
A variety of patrons can be seen in Fike, from students to professors. The recreation center not only provides an environment for all types of people, but also for all types of workouts. Whether you’re looking to improve your endurance, blow off some steam by lifting weights or just play a pickup game with your friends, you’ll find what you need at Fike.
If you’re looking to play basketball, volleyball, badminton, racquetball or any other recreational sport, Fike provides all the equipment you would need. These items are distributed by the front desk and can be provided upon request.
Clemson’s Air Force and Army ROTC also utilize Fike’s amenities for their training during inclement weather. On cold mornings, students in the ROTC program can be found on Fike’s basketball courts exercising in groups.
The gym was originally built as a place for Tiger athletics teams to train during inclement weather. In this era, Fike was known as the “field house.” Fike was also used during this time as the ocker rooms for Clemson football.
After serving as the home of Clemson’s basketball team for 39 seasons, Fike was repurposed into the gym we all know today. Its history, coupled with the amenities it offers, easily explains why Fike Recreation Center was voted the best workout facility in Clemson.
