Clemson is a sport-focused community; students flock to contests, join club sports and play in intramurals. But this year, students sought after one club sport above all: women’s flag football, the 2026 winner of Best Club Sport.
Clemson flag football burst onto the campus scene in the fall of 2024. Since then, the Tigers have grown exponentially in numbers; droves of students stopped by the club’s desk at Tiger Prowl, and prospective students even inquired with tour guides about how to get involved after becoming fans of the club’s Instagram.
To the club’s executives, the warm Tigertown welcome has meant the world.
“It just shows that all our hard work has paid off,” Amanda Andreano, club president, told The Tiger in an interview. “Especially starting less than two years ago, it really shows that everything we’ve done is for something.”
Women’s flag football encourages students to get out there and play as often as possible, with regular practices three times a week and weekend tournaments. While that would typically be difficult to organize, the club members’ shared love for flag football has made it seamless.
“Our practice times are usually an hour and a half,” Andreano said. “If it ends at 9:30, we’re all usually there until about 10:15, 10:30, because we just don’t want to leave. For everyone, this sport is so special.”
For the team, the on-field connection comes from an off-the-field bond.
“We’re so close-knit that, even if we’re not at practice, we’re still hanging out,” Erin Harris, the club’s treasurer, told The Tiger. “We had team bonding pottery the other night.”
The club invites all of Clemson into the action on April 18 for a day full of fun, football and fan events at its first home tournament at The Pier’s National Athletic Village Field.
